Man Throws Bag Of Cocaine After Running Across I-684 Lanes, Police Say

New York State Police troopers busted a 54-year-old man who allegedly attempted to flee police by running in the median of I-684 in Southeast and tossing a bag of cocaine.

State Police officials announced the arrest of Brooklyn resident Roger Sherwood on Friday, who is facing felony charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance and tampering with evidence. He was also cited for disorderly conduct, a violation.

According to police, troopers were dispatched to a stretch of I-684 at approximately 4 a.m. on April 4, where there was a report of a suspicious man - later identified as Sherwood - who was wandering in the roadway.

Upon arrival, police said that they spotted Sherwood running in the northbound lanes of the interstate, and when troopers activated their emergency lights, he proceeded to run into the median, and was seen throwing a small plastic bag, which later was determined to contain 2.4 grams of cocaine.

Following arraignment, Sherwood was remanded to the Putnam County Jail without bail. He is due back in Southeast Justice Court on April 10 to answer the charges.
